The Kodiak Island Borough Assembly on Feb. 5 authorized two reimbursements to Providence Kodiak Island Medical Center for chiller design work: $67,120.12 to advance the design from 65% to 95%, and $25,305 for the 100% design and construction documents.
Manager Williams said the assembly had originally approved $187,824 for earlier design work; the 65% design was reported at $63,977.12, leaving prior-authorized funds available. Project staff and finance worked with Providence to align invoicing and provide documentation of amounts requested. Williams said the ARB approved the 95% drawings and does not require the design to return for ARB review between 95% and 100%.
Assemblymembers asked about the apparent disparity between earlier authorizations and actual invoice amounts. Williams explained that Providence often advances design work further than the percentage labels used in the borough's procurement scheduling; the reimbursement requests and supporting invoices now align with borough expectations.
Both reimbursement motions passed by roll call vote with unanimous support. Manager Williams said the borough will continue to report project costs and, where possible, phase figures to show total project expenses.
