Prince George's County Council swears in Danielle Hunter and Timothy J. Adams

Prince George's County on Feb. 3 ceremonially welcomed two new members to its County Council, sworn in during a chamber event that included remarks from the county executive and several council colleagues.

Mahasin Al Amin, the elected clerk of the circuit court, administered the oath to Danielle Hunter for District 6. Hunter repeated the oath to support the constitutions and laws of the United States and Maryland and the charter and laws of Prince George's County. In remarks after the oath, Hunter said her appointment "is not about my personal ambition" but "about service, stability, stewardship" and promised to place "community needs above individuals' agendas."

County Executive Ayesha Brayboy congratulated both new members and highlighted Hunter's nonprofit work with Take Flight Consulting, which the executive said focuses on aviation training and mentoring for underrepresented communities.

Later in the ceremony, Mahasin Al Amin administered the oath to Timothy J. Adams for District 4. Adams, the former mayor of Bowie, told the chamber that his first priority will be to "listen," saying, "somebody asked me, what's the first thing you're gonna do? I said, listen." He thanked the council for the vote of confidence and pledged to serve residents of District 4 and the county as a whole.

Several council members and community leaders offered testimonials during the program. Council member Ed Burrows recounted Adams' fundraising for Bowie State University and his leadership of a multi-state company, and multiple speakers noted Judge Sheila Tillerson Adams' presence and support.

The chair closed the ceremony by reminding attendees of a reception for family and staff and announced that committee assignments would be updated now that the council is back to full membership.

The ceremony concluded without formal votes on council business; both new members were sworn in and welcomed to the County Council.
