Covington County awards road-materials and precast-bridge contracts; ARPA paving scheduled

County staff recommended awarding the annual prime and emulsified-asphalt bid to Hunt Refining Company after receiving two bidders and a no-bid on one line. The staff recommendation listed MC-70 prime at $4.54 per gallon and emulsified CRS-2 at $2.48 per gallon; the board voted to award the bid to Hunt Refining Company.
The commission also accepted a single bid for precast bridge components from Connected Bridge and Engineering, Inc., of Troy, Alabama, in the amount of $212,139.29 for a bridge replacement project over Indian Creek. Staff said doing bridge work project-by-project was preferable given fluctuations in concrete prices; the motion to award the component bid carried.
Separately, county road staff said Bush Hog units were operating across several districts and that an ARPA-funded work order for the Bogan Level paving project will be issued and paving is expected to begin the following day, contingent on hurricane-related weather impacts.
Commissioners asked operational questions about inventory and software; staff gave a favorable update on the SIMS work-order system that the county is using to track work orders and asset status.
