The Brookings Planning Commission voted Feb. 3 to approve a minor change transferring the conditional use permit for a short‑term rental at 96335 Dawson Road into the name of the property’s new owner, Janet M. Baer.
Planning staff told the commission the property’s conditional use permit was originally granted on Aug. 2, 2019, and the property has changed hands three times. The most recent purchase occurred on Dec. 2, 2025, according to the staff presentation. Staff said the applicant has a property manager, will continue to remit monthly transient occupancy taxes and proposes no changes to the property; staff recommended approval of the minor change.
Applicant Janet M. Baer, who gave her mailing address in Sebastopol, Calif., told commissioners she purchased the property in early December and intends to live there eventually. "I'm in an elder care situation right now, so I'm going to continue with the short term rental situation until such time that I can move here," Baer said.
After public testimony closed, a commissioner moved to approve file MCDash1Dash26/CUP‑5‑19 based on the staff findings and subject to conditions of approval; the motion passed. The commission then voted to approve the final order consistent with the staff report.
The action transfers the CUP to the new owner and leaves in place the conditions and monitoring described in the staff report.
