Fruita reports $2.1M in supplemental bridge funds, upcoming events and continued tracking of state mandates

During the city manager's report, staff briefed council on funding, events and the city's tracking of state mandates.
The manager said staff are assembling an itemized list of unfunded mandates that have been instituted on the city by state or other jurisdictions and offered to present the numbers at an upcoming workshop.
On infrastructure funding, the manager announced the city received $2,100,000 in supplemental funds from the CDOT off-system bridge program to support the Maple Street bridge replacement project. He said the city previously had $2.5 million in project funds (including $1.75 million from congressional directed spending in 2021 and $750,000 from the county) and an engineer's estimate of $2.5 million from 2022; the supplemental funds will help cover potential overruns.
Staff also previewed multiple community events: the sold-out Sweetheart Run with a 10K and 5K, a 15th-anniversary celebration of the community center with post-race activities, and a candidate orientation for council and mayoral candidates. The manager noted TransRockies (the Desert Gravel race organizer) will keep start/stop locations downtown and is coordinating community impacts and possible camping at the middle school.
Council received the report; no formal action was taken. Staff said they will follow up with detailed cost estimates and the proposed schedule for the bridge replacement and will return with additional budgetary materials as they become available.
