Designation of federal program representatives: The board approved a resolution to designate a local education agency (LEA) representative for various federal programs that provide special-education and related services. Title programs and Impact Aid: The board also approved designating curriculum director Colleen Cardenuto as the district’s representative for Title programs and Impact Aid, a federal requirement the district completes annually. Cardenuto explained the regulatory need for yearly designation and the board approved by roll-call vote.
Donations and student accounts: Superintendent Olsen introduced an $800 donation from the Bemidji Lions Club Foundation to the Bemidji High School choir; the board accepted the donation by voice vote. Ashley Eastridge presented the annual student activity fundraising report, explaining that a change in state statute consolidated student activities auditing into the district’s annual audit but MDE still requires a separate annual presentation; the item was informational and required no action.
Student input and activities: Student representative Mackenzie told the board students generally prefer e-learning days over calendar makeup days because e-learning avoids disrupting after-school activities. Mackenzie also reported a well-attended Volcomotive dinner show and noted a new high-school club, Rise Above, focused on teen alcohol and drug abuse prevention.
