Park staff provided a detailed update on Manuka Park and other county recreation projects during the work session.
The report said playground lights and two storm shelters have been installed and that conference-room interior work is nearly complete pending an accordion door. Sidewalk repair near the bathhouse was noted as a trip hazard; staff said Alabama Power inspected the bathhouse permit requirements and will provide instructions to complete permit paperwork.
Park staff said archery park construction has begun with an expected public opening within about three months. Pond management includes recent bluegill stocking to aid bait issues and catfish added a month earlier; staff plan to sink donated Christmas trees to increase shallow-water habitat.
Commissioners and staff also discussed signage, ADA considerations for walkways and options such as removable pavers or compacted 'crush and run' to create accessible routes without permanent concrete. Staff asked for time to complete permit paperwork and follow up with the county on bathhouse repairs and long-term maintenance.
