Cleburne County approves contract amendment, salary-resolution and HR evaluation policy; receives tax-administration briefing

The motion passed on a voice vote. The commission also approved a resolution asking state legislators to create a local act to raise base pay for certain elected officials; the resolution directs an increase of $7,000 annually for the revenue commissioner and the sheriff starting with the next elected term.

Clark said the department’s pricing structure is "2% or $6.54 per transaction, whichever is less," and explained a key reporting difference: the state counts only money-paying transactions, while the private vendor Avenue counts accounts that file zero-return reports as separate lines. Clark said that counting approach can make vendor quotes appear higher because Avenue’s proposal included zero-return filers. Commissioners discussed tobacco and fireworks tax administration and an ongoing audit; staff said they expect the audit process to be scheduled and aimed to complete key audit steps by the end of the calendar year.
Staff reported other routine business during the meeting, including approval of minutes and discussion about facility maintenance, animal shelter site work and road-sign inspections. Several agenda items were informational; one listed new-business item failed for lack of motion.
