For 710 North Broadway staff recommended approval with the condition that the applicant submit an alternate color palette that is more muted and consistent with building-conservation and rehabilitation guidelines for the Automobile Alley National Register District; owner Amin Parksad said he would work with staff on a revised palette. Commissioners emphasized researching historic paint layers and using existing district palettes as guidance.
At 1100 North Walker (the former Brown’s Bakery), Dennis Studio Architects presented roof-mounted signage that approximates previous historic signage; staff noted the property was recently added to the National Register and that the project qualifies as a historic tax-credit project. The commission approved the signage and site improvements with a condition that the applicant pursue a variance from the Board of Adjustment for roof-mounted signs where required.
Both approvals included directions to work with staff on final details and to apply for Board of Adjustment variances where sign and screening regulations require.
