Trustees pressed airport staff Nov. 20 for details about a parking-reservation system the director said "should be active in January." Trustees voiced frustration that current reserved spots can sit unused for long periods at low prices and asked whether users will be able to cancel reservations and how no-shows will be enforced.
During questions, a trustee said, "For $5 right now, someone is securing a space for could be weeks," arguing the price encourages people to hold spots without using them. The director and staff said the platform will include a reservation fee and that IT and parking teams are running trials; staff did not set a final fee at the meeting.
Trustees suggested implementation options such as charging for reserved time or requiring users to actively cancel to receive refunds. The director said reservations would be made through the airport website rather than a separate app at launch and that staff will continue testing the system before deployment.
The board did not take a vote on parking pricing or enforcement at the meeting; trustees asked staff to return with details as the system is finalized.
