West Columbia council gives unanimous second readings to multiple zoning items, approves routine business

In a largely unanimous session, the City of West Columbia City Council granted second readings to six zoning items, approved minutes and other routine actions, and voted to reappoint two members to the employee grievance committee.
The City of West Columbia City Council on a February meeting gave unanimous second readings to six zoning matters, approved meeting minutes and several routine appointments, and moved to executive session on personnel and contract matters.
The council gave second reading approval to an amendment to section 616 of the West Columbia zoning ordinance regarding the North American Industry Classification System; the motion carried unanimously. Council also approved a planning commission recommendation to establish an infill overlay district for a 0.13-acre parcel at Spring Street and South Wood Street (tax map 004638-05-017, zone C-3) and gave second reading to rezoning two parcels at 355 and 353 Drea Road to light manufacturing (LM), along with a separate LM designation for 919 North Lucas Street. Two general-commercial (C-2) classifications also received unanimous second readings: a 4.43-acre partial at Mathias Road (tax map 004597-10-076) and two partials totaling 0.752 acres on Platte Springs Road (tax maps 005747-04-007 and 005747-04-008).
Speaker 2 called for the motions and the items were approved without recorded dissent.
The council also approved as a single consent action administrative items including the minutes from the Jan. 6, 2025 regular council meeting and the Jan. 12, 2026 council work session. The City's municipal court jury list for calendar year 2026 was approved after the judge was acknowledged.
On appointments, the council unanimously reappointed Wilhelmina Frasier and Michael Seawright to the employee grievance committee for three-year terms.
The meeting moved to executive session under cited sections of the South Carolina Code for personnel and contractual matters; the public portion concluded after the votes noted above.
