The Brevard County School Board reorganized its leadership and approved a package of routine administrative items during its organizational meeting. By roll call, board members elected Mister Trent as chair and Mister Susan as vice chair, then adopted an amended calendar that shifts the Jan. 28 work session and business meeting to Jan. 21 to avoid a scheduling conflict with a student model senate.
The reorganizational process opened with general counsel explaining the nomination procedure under Robert's Rules of Order, after which members nominated and voted on the leadership slate. The board then recessed briefly to rearrange seating before resuming board business.
The board also convened as the Brevard County School Board Leasing Corporation and approved appointments for that body: the school board chair as corporation president, the vice chair as corporation vice president, the superintendent as secretary and the chief financial officer as treasurer. Separately, the superintendent requested and the board approved authorization for the superintendent to use signature facsimiles of the chairperson and superintendent on district checks until updated facsimiles are available.
On routine business, the board adopted a consent agenda covering 38 items and approved administrative staff recommendations. In the action portion of the meeting the board voted to: adopt attendance-boundary changes for the 2025–26 school year (agenda item G-55), approve department-initiated agreements (G-56), and approve procurement solicitations (G-57). Roll-call votes on those items recorded ayes from all voting members present.
Board members also appointed representatives and alternates to external committees for the coming year and amended one slate to add a representative to the Brevard County Continuum of Care, with Mister Thomas volunteering to serve.
The organizational decisions set the board’s leadership and calendar for the coming year and moved several routine approvals through the meeting without extended debate. The board adjourned after closing remarks and a brief remembrance for longtime educator Mitzi Robinson.
