Chief Financial Officer Chief Howell outlined the district’s plan for three budget work sessions and a different format for those sessions during the Jan. 28 Operations, Budget and Fiscal Affairs Committee meeting.
Under the new approach, each division will present a 10-minute overview of mission, core services, reductions and priorities, followed by a question-and-answer period. Chief Howell said the format is intended to make budget decisions more transparent and to ‘‘bring the full story together’’ for each division.
Nut Graf: The district plans three work sessions and accompanying public hearings — Feb. 5, Feb. 12 and Feb. 19 — to review division-level budgets before the Board is asked to adopt the FY27 requested budget. Chief Howell told board members the budget book release has shifted by one day and staff expect to publish it on Friday to ensure stakeholders can review materials before the Feb. 5 session.
What to expect Chief Howell said divisions will explain reductions previously discussed, highlight enhancements and explain how remaining funds will be used. Each session will include time for board questions and public comment. He emphasized that the revised format is intended to avoid rehashing pre-submitted Q&A and, instead, provide a clear narrative for each division.
Board follow-up and public access Board members asked whether the budget book publication timeline would be updated on the website. Chief Howell said staff would coordinate with communications to make that change so the public can find the updated release date and the work session materials in advance.
Next steps PGCPS staff will post the budget book and associated materials, proceed with the three work sessions in February and present the requested budget for Board adoption on Feb. 26.
