Voters to consider contract cost items after board places collective-bargaining article on ballot

Patrick O'Day, speaking for the board, described the agreement as the result of cooperative bargaining. Fiscal increases in the article are listed as $473,440 for 2026–27, $492,190 for 2027–28 and $472,450 for 2028–29; the board recommended raising and appropriating $473,440 for the current fiscal year. O'Day described those numbers as equivalent to about 2.25% in the first year, 2.5% in the second and 2.75% in the third.
O'Day highlighted contract terms beyond pay, including guaranteed prep time language (district practice was 40 minutes daily though the prior formal contract guaranteed 25 minutes) and broader bereavement language intended to be more inclusive. He said the teacher group and the board both supported the agreement.
There were no public speakers on Article 2. The moderator called the question to end deliberation; a voice vote ordered Article 2 to appear on the ballot as written and the board restricted reconsideration at the session.
Next steps: Voters will decide on the collective-bargaining cost items on March 10, 2026.
