Board approves North Layton kitchen remodel and Catalyst Center pole barn to expand CTE capacity

The Davis School District Board voted to modernize school facilities with two construction awards intended to support student services and career-technical education.

The board approved awarding the North Layton Junior High kitchen remodel to Bailey Builders, Inc. for $1,897,859. The project includes a walk-in refrigerator and freezer and upgraded equipment to meet the district’s cook-and-serve standards; the administration said equipment can be repurposed to other schools if the building is rebuilt in the future.

Separately, the board approved a $143,658 award to Roper Buildings to construct a pole barn adjacent to the Catalyst Center. The structure is intended as a cost-effective, long-term space where students from across the district can participate in building mini homes as part of the CTE program.

Board members praised the district’s construction partners and noted the projects are designed to be durable. Mr. Carter said the pole barn is expected to be a permanent, economical building with poles sunk 4–6 feet into the ground to disperse load; the board also referenced internships and industry partnerships tied to CTE programming.

Both motions passed by voice vote; facilities staff were directed to execute contracts and provide construction schedules and updates to the board.
