Committee reviews traffic projects and schedules workshop request on Ammon Road

City staff provided a status update on ongoing traffic-safety projects at the Feb. 4 Transportation Safety Advisory Committee meeting, reporting completed studies, imminent construction consideration and recent installations.

Carol told the committee that two traffic studies (one during July–August and a second radar study last month) were completed for the front gate/Fair Oaks Parkway intersection; staff approved a hybrid left-turn design and city council would consider awarding a construction contract the following day, with work expected to begin in the coming months if awarded.

Carol said the city purchased additional radar feedback signs as a council initiative; the signs were received in December and installed at the locations shown in staff materials, and staff considered those submittals completed. She also reported that city council approved the first reading of an ordinance to reduce speed to 25 mph for a separate submittal (second reading scheduled for council) and that TxDOT recommended a 50 mph limit on portions of FM 3351 (Ralph Fair Road), with signage anticipated in April.

Vice Chair Chris Stepke announced the committee's next meeting (May 6) and a member asked that the May agenda include a workshop on Ammon Road to review safety issues (speeding, pavement condition and a sharp 90-degree curve). Staff noted an open house on Monday where the Ammon Road project limits, schedule and detour plans will be presented.

The committee closed the meeting after reminders about public participation and said it will continue to monitor projects and return items to future agendas as needed.
