Teacher Jillian LaRue and Kindness Ambassadors from Freetown Elementary School presented the new after‑school club to the committee Feb. 4. LaRue described a 1‑year trial with fall, winter and spring sessions and said enrollment has been robust (22 in the fall session; 21 in winter with new and returning members).
Students introduced themselves and explained what "kindness" means to them: Aria said, "Kindness is helping someone else feel good with things we say and be kind to everybody," while Emma said, "Kindness is spreading happiness even through small gestures and giving things." The group described community projects including crafts and cards for veterans, participation with the Freetown Historical Society's veterans celebration, and a planned March event with the Council on Aging for hot chocolate, cookies and conversation with seniors.
LaRue said the club is teacher‑directed and student‑led, with students voting on outreach projects. Committee members praised the students and thanked LaRue for organizing the program.
