MADISON COUNTY, Tenn. — The Madison County Commission voted Feb. 2 to appoint Mike Bailey to the vacant District 6 seat and approved Ron Kirkland to fill a one‑year unexpired term on the county budget committee.
Jill Johnson spoke during public comment to convey her family's support for Bailey, saying it was her late father’s wish to have Mike Bailey finish the term. "It's dad's wish and also our family's honor to fully support Mike being appointed to complete his term," she told commissioners.
The commission heard brief remarks from each of the three applicants before taking nominations. Mike Bailey said he grew up in Madison County, has experience working with local people and asked the commission for consideration to fulfill the seat. Other applicants who spoke were Shontavia Beasley and Robbie Reagan, each outlining ties to the community and public‑service experience.
Mister Arnold nominated Bailey for the District 6 seat; the nomination was seconded and approved by voice vote. The chair asked Bailey to take the oath; an oath was administered and Bailey accepted the appointment.
Separately, the commission considered a nomination to fill a vacant one‑year term on the county budget committee. A motion to appoint Ron Kirkland carried by voice vote.
