Jonathan, the town's newly introduced chief information officer, gave his first report to the council outlining several IT and infrastructure initiatives.
He said the town has migrated employees to a public‑safety government cloud (hosted by the provider noted as Microsoft in the report) to maintain physical separation from nongovernment entities and to improve data security. The migration included decades of emails and hundreds of thousands of documents; Jonathan reported the move proceeded with minimal downtime.
Jonathan described a $40,000 value of hardware obtained at no cost (through a JAG grant and related equipment transfers), an additional $17,000 in pending safety/security grants, and an upcoming application for a $35,000 cybersecurity grant that staff believe has a high likelihood of success.
He also said the town is evaluating townwide building sensor installations (temperature, humidity, water‑leak detection) funded by a town trust, plans AV improvements for one‑touch live streaming of meetings, noise‑canceling microphones for clearer audio, and a web form and kiosk for an opt‑in town newsletter to improve public communication.
Separately, the council reviewed a Rhode Island League of Cities and Towns 2025 municipal salary survey attached to a department head report. A department head (Anya) summarized that Little Compton has many part‑time positions and where comparable positions exist the town tends to be at or near the bottom of compensation rankings, providing a baseline for future salary discussions.
