"It's a nice piece of knowledge they have," he said, but recommended deferring applying until the county has larger projects to make the investment worthwhile.
The superintendent also reported receiving a DOT inquiry about county positions on setting load limits and recommended placing a local load limit on a specific bridge. Commissioners discussed setting speed and load limits locally where appropriate.
Before moving on, the board voted to accept the presented fuel bids for county use. The superintendent noted routine work including blading, tree cutting to prevent snow catch, and rebuilding a dump-truck component received from Iowa.
Commissioners directed staff to revisit the DOT grant option next year if project timing and priorities change.
