Buffalo County commissioners redo leadership election, approve amended minutes

Buffalo County commissioners reopened and completed their leadership elections at a regular meeting, electing Don as chair and Danita as vice chair and later approving corrections to prior meeting minutes.

A commissioner who led the process explained basic nomination rules and opened the floor, saying: “Number 1, you can nominate yourself, and number 2, you don't need a second.” With only one nomination for chair, the board elected Don by unanimous ballot. Danita was later nominated and elected vice chair in the same manner.

After leadership, commissioners turned to the minutes of a previous meeting. The board discussed several typographical and vote-record errors, including a correction to a contingency transfer line that should read “201” rather than “101” and a clarification that a commissioner’s vote should be recorded as “no” rather than “abstain.” A motion to correct the minutes and record the corrected contingency transfer passed on a voice vote.

The meeting record shows the board handled the nominations and minutes corrections by standard procedure: nominations were opened, members either self-nominated or were nominated by peers, seconds were handled where requested, and votes were taken by voice with results recorded in the minutes. Commissioners confirmed the corrected minutes and the contingency-transfer amendment before moving to the next agenda items.

The board adjourned the leadership and minutes items and continued to highway, public-safety and contractual business later in the meeting.
