Council approves $34,086 purchase of 14 Motorola body cameras to expand police coverage

The St. Clair Shores City Council voted to approve the purchase of 14 additional Motorola body cameras for $34,086, a budgeted capital outlay to be paid from DLEF funds.
Sergeant Campbell requested the purchase, saying it will expand the department’s existing inventory (launched April 2023) from 36 to about 50 cameras so officers assigned to parades, fireworks and other special events can be equipped. "Adding these additional body cameras will bring us up to about 50 cameras, which will then allow each officer that is working our special events... to be equipped with a body camera," Campbell said.
Councilmember Roussy moved to approve the purchase and Councilmember Frederick supported the motion. Council approved the request unanimously.
Council members praised the cameras as protective for both officers and the public and described the purchase as straightforward and budgeted.
