Williams County commissioners approve routine business: consent agenda, staffing, appointments and leases

The Williams County Board of County Commissioners handled a series of routine administrative items and approvals during its Feb. 3 meeting.

The board approved the consent agenda at the start of the meeting. During the public comment period a commissioner relayed concerns about lengthy lines and service delays at the local post office, noting elderly residents waiting up to two hours; commissioners moved to direct staff to investigate potential support and draft a letter or other assistance, and the motion passed.

Helen, a county department head, reported promotions within County Highway to superintendent and foreman and requested permission to fill an equipment operator/truck driver position to restore winter operations capacity; the board approved filling the position by roll call. Helen also presented reappointments for the tuition appeals committee (Commissioner Walstead as the county representative; the state’s attorney’s office member, Attorney Prout; and Patty Okerchuck as the superintendent of schools designee) and the board approved those appointments and their terms.

The meeting record shows three agreements brought for the chairman’s signature: an advertising contract with the city of Williston tied to airport promotion, and lease agreements with the curling club and the racing club for fairgrounds space. Commissioners moved and approved the agreements and authorized the chairman to sign.

Commissioner Anderson also reported that Julie Saint Germain, director of the health and human services zone, told the health board the department is fully staffed — a notable staffing milestone. The chairman adjourned the meeting at 08:25.
