Summary
Council approved a resolution authorizing application to the Texas General Land Office for up to $5,000,000 in Community Development Block Grant–Disaster Recovery funding to rehabilitate Town Creek and related drainage. The city acknowledged a 5% local match (about $250,000) if awarded.
The Crockett City Council voted on Jan. 5 to authorize submission of an application to the Texas General Land Office for Community Development Block Grant–Disaster Recovery (CDBG‑DR) funds to repair drainage through Town Creek and nearby tributary areas.
Staff described the resolution as a required initial step to permit the city to apply for up to $5,000,000 in recovery funds. The city said projects under consideration include bank stabilization and drainage rehabilitation through the railroad area and toward Ruebert Park and the log-cabin area; staff said final project scope will depend on engineering, bids and funding availability. City staff noted the application requires a local match of 5 percent (approximately $250,000) and that additional engineering and cost estimates will follow if the application moves forward.
Council member Speaker 7 moved to approve the resolution to apply; Speaker 3 seconded the motion and the council carried it by voice vote. Staff said this vote only authorizes applying for funding, not any final construction contract or expenditure; design, bidding and environmental review would follow if the grant is awarded.
