Tyrell, the event organizer, told commissioners the drone display would run about 15 minutes and launch from North Prairie Park. "It's 15 minutes," Tyrell said, adding that a 400-drone show can render portraits and historical scenes. Tyrell also said the county's JDA could help with marketing funds to broaden attendance.
Commissioners debated the cost. "That's a lot of money for 15 minutes," Commissioner Klayman said, questioning the per-minute expense. Supporters said the show would boost countywide festivities and draw visitors the night before the Kildeer Roundup rodeo. Commissioner Heizer moved to support matching half of the city's ask; the motion was seconded and passed by roll call with one no vote recorded.
The commission directed staff to coordinate with the city and JDA on marketing and program timing as the event plan is finalized. Tyrell said he would provide updates to the board as details are confirmed.
The vote: commissioners approved the $37,000 support for the drone show; Commissioner Klayman voted no.
