Kate Hambright, historical market chair of the Jefferson County Historical Commission, told the Beaumont City Council that the Temple To The Brave in Pipkins Patriot Park was officially listed in the National Register of Historic Places as of Jan. 26, 2026.
Hambright described the Colonel George Moffitt chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, constructing the Temple in 1931 as a memorial to Texas servicemen of World War I and for world peace, and she listed its architectural features — Gothic Revival form, stained glass windows, Colorado greenstone cladding and a Tudor-arch entry — and interior elements such as oak trusses and terrazzo flooring. She noted the DAR’s long-term stewardship, a 2006 city partnership to restore the building and a 2007 rededication; the building was designated a recorded Texas historic landmark in 2023 by the Texas Historical Commission.
Hambright thanked Mayor West for participating in a recent marker dedication and said the listing brings national recognition to the memorial’s historical and architectural significance.
