Courthouse maintenance: boiler running, sewer backup shut east‑side restrooms for 36 hours

Courthouse maintenance staff told the committee on Jan. 26 that the courthouse boiler is operating after a recent feed‑water pipe leak was repaired without cost, but staff remain attentive because many pipes in the building are old cast iron. Unidentified Speaker 8 said the feed water tank and chemical system are new, but the smaller feed tank requires weekend attention this season.
Maintenance staff also reported a sewer main backup that forced closure of the east‑side bathrooms for about a day and a half. Crews ran a camera and used two different augers and two water jets over the better part of a day to clear years of sediment and debris. "We did manage to get it undone," Speaker 8 said, noting staff recovered clothing and other items and that crews were racing cold weather to finish repairs.
Committee members asked whether additional preventative checks should be done on other restrooms; staff said the camera inspection showed the lines clear and recommended monitoring. There were no votes on the item; the report was received for information.
