Committee approves $15,000 contingency cap to support Extension office move

Mary, an Extension office staff member, told the Finance & Economic Development Committee that the Extension office will move into administrative space and reduce from six rooms to three, creating uncertainty about storage, furniture and layout needs. She said roughly $30,000 remained unused in the 2025 Extension budget because of a vacancy and asked whether some of those funds could carry over to 2026 to cover equipment and moving costs.
Dan and consultant Steve recommended moving leftover dollars into county contingency and allowing the administrator to approve modest, capped expenditures as needs arise so the move can proceed without repeated committee approvals. "If we carry this forward and it's just for extension, it's kinda, you know, the it's much bigger than that," Steve said, noting multiple departments are relocating.
Committee member Brad moved to allocate $15,000 from contingency for office moves, furniture and equipment with the expectation the administrator will approve specific purchases and that a cap will be enforced. Members signaled assent and the motion carried. Mary thanked the committee, and staff said they will look for used furniture in other departments to reduce cost.
