Polk County board adopts updated purchasing thresholds and sets pay for sheriff and clerk

The board adopted a comprehensive revision to Polk County’s financial policies (chapter 5) to mirror recent federal changes to the micro-purchase threshold, which staff said increased from $10,000 to $15,000. The change came to the board with a general-government committee recommendation and was approved by a voice vote.
Separately, the board approved a resolution setting compensation for the county sheriff and the clerk of circuit court for the 2027–2030 term. Staff presented comparable-county data and said the sheriff’s 2027 salary in the proposal is $7,000 less than Saint Croix County’s projected 2027 number; the clerk’s adjustment was modeled to align the clerk with recently ratified pay for recorder of deeds and treasurer positions. Counsel reminded the board that state statute requires wages be set prior to election and described constraints on mid-term changes.
