Philomath unveils new city logo and website plan, council praises design

Chelsea, a city staff member leading the branding project, presented Philomath’s new logo and outlined plans for a redesigned website during the Dec. 9 City Council meeting.
The design centers on an illustration of Marys Peak and stylized forms representing the Marys River; staff said the palette and custom font were developed after community brainstorming sessions. “We have a new logo, a new website,” Chelsea said, explaining the updated identity will be used on mugs, stickers, business cards and a fully wrapped city van.
Staff told the council the website will include new back‑end functions to help city staff publish information more efficiently and front‑end features to better present city services and events. Council members expressed enthusiasm for the look and the anticipated functionality, and staff said they will proceed with the rollout and finalize a brand guide and mockups.
Councilors thanked the designers and collaborators from neighboring jurisdictions who participated in the process and asked staff to continue coordination on the website launch and merchandise. The presentation concluded with staff distributing sample items and promising further updates as the website goes live.
The council then continued with other agenda business, including votes on land‑use ordinances and a resolution updating system development charge rates.
