The Philomath City Council completed multiple appointments at its Feb. 10 meeting.
Planning commission: Council considered four applicants for one opening—Christine J. Henderson, Sarah J. Coulter Mitchell, Amanda Polly (Polley in packet) and Theodore Vieja. After a ranked, verbal ballot process and a second round between the top two, the council appointed Sarah J. Coulter Mitchell to a four-year term on the Philomath Planning Commission, with the term expiring Dec. 31, 2028.
Budget committee: The council appointed John T. Simonson to a two-year budget-committee term (expiring Dec. 31, 2026) and Amanda Polley to a one-year term (expiring Dec. 2025). The motions were moved and seconded and the council recorded unanimous approval.
Council members discussed procedure (some favoring a written ballot or ranked method) but proceeded with a verbal ranked ballot that produced a majority for Mitchell in the planning-commission selection.
Next steps: Appointees will be notified and provided onboarding information to begin work on their respective committees.
