Commission proclaims Constitution Week; Daughters of the American Revolution present medals to commissioners

The Washington County Commission on Sept. 17 adopted a proclamation declaring the week of Sept. 17 as Constitution Week and accepted remarks and recognition from the Color Country chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR).
Anne Robinson, chaplain of the Color Country DAR, recounted the 1787 signing of the U.S. Constitution in Philadelphia and explained the history behind the congressional resolution that designated Constitution Week in 1955. "It was 237 years ago the constitution was signed in the Philadelphia Assembly Room... on 09/17/1787," Robinson said.
Valerie King, honorary chapter regent and chair of the America 250 committee for the chapter, thanked commissioners for prior county support of America250 activities and announced plans for events tied to the upcoming national celebration. She presented DAR America 250 medals and certificates to the commission, noting county contributions to past projects such as Blueprints of Liberty and support for the Green Dragon Tavern initiative. Commissioners moved to adopt Proclamation No. 202436 and the motion passed by voice vote; recipients and DAR chapter members then posed for photos.
Commissioners and DAR representatives noted plans to read the Constitution in the chambers in coming days with commission members serving as readers. The proclamation and the DAR recognition were ceremonial and did not require additional county funding from the items presented at this meeting.
