Rancho Mirage council approves consent calendar, annexation and legislative platform in unanimous votes

At its Feb. 5 meeting the Rancho Mirage City Council approved multiple routine and land‑use items by unanimous votes.

Consent calendar: Staff presented six consent items (5a–5f) and asked that contract item 5e (contract amendments) and contract 3 with Visit Greater Palm Springs be removed from the consent calendar for separate consideration. Following public comment and staff clarification about the Rancho Mirage Writers Festival’s separate 501(c)(3) foundation, the council approved the consent calendar with the exception of contract item 5e; the motion carried 5–0.

Annexation: The council held a public hearing for annexation No. 203 to Community Facilities District No. 1 (tentative tract map 38447), describing the territory at the southwest corner of Via Florencia and Via Josefina as one parcel of approximately 5.04 acres. Staff reported that six eligible ballots were received on 02/05/2026 and all were cast in favor. The council moved to adopt the resolution calling a special election, declaring the election results, approving the annexation, and ordering recordation; the motion passed 5–0.

Legislative platform: Tyler Folkes, senior management analyst, presented a proposed legislative platform intended to guide council‑approved advocacy priorities at the regional, state and federal levels. Staff recommended adoption to allow the city manager or designee to advocate positions consistent with council direction. Council moved to adopt the legislative platform; the motion carried 5–0.

Other notes: The council recessed to closed session on potential initiation of litigation and returned with a report that no reportable action was taken. The meeting adjourned at 3:42 p.m.
