Joshua Garcia, 16, told BronxNet he began dancing in elementary-school talent shows and progressed quickly to salsa congress appearances and professional opportunities.
"I did Michael Jackson's Thriller" at a school show around age 5, Garcia said, describing early fascination with movement and a shift from hip-hop to salsa under a teacher's guidance. He recalled performing in In the Heights as a featured dancer and appearing in television projects and a recent national commercial. Garcia said his parents supported him and that he continues training—he attends a professional performing-arts high school and is taking acting and vocal lessons.
Garcia described touring and performing with established artists when they appear in New York and said those opportunities helped him develop onstage confidence. He said dance is and will remain his primary focus even as he pursues acting and singing.
The segment closed with a promise of a live dance performance later in the show and social handles for following Garcia's work.
