Committee approves minutes; outlines cemetery cleanups and Pleasant Point survey

The committee noted clearing work at a McHenry-area cemetery has been completed by the Eco Project, citing a Clay Today article published Jan. 15 as background. During site visits to Camp Landing-area cemeteries, members reported visiting Old Beulah, Conway, Lee, the POW site and Blue Pond; they also described finding what appears to be a single unmarked burial depression south of Blue Pond and west of Lee.
Unidentified Speaker 3 said a ground-penetrating radar survey is scheduled at Pleasant Point the following morning; the speaker identified Emily Murray, described in the transcript as a state archaeologist associated with Flagler College, as the surveyor. Committee members said they will provide more updates at the March meeting.
The committee discussed options for ongoing maintenance and noted that if the county’s contractor bid for lawn work on county properties is reasonable, staff would explore using that vendor and seek grant support from the county grants department to fund work on Pleasant Point. Staff said they will check whether grant staff can supply a bid and whether multiple estimates will be required for grant applications.
