Rice Lake board approves minutes, consent agenda and elementary handbook; tables staff-evaluation rule and moves to closed session

The Rice Lake Area School District board took several routine and procedural actions at its May 20 meeting.
After recognizing students, the board approved the minutes from its May 12 regular session following a motion and a voice vote ('Aye'). The consent agenda — which the chair said included one resignation and six employment recommendations — was then moved, seconded and approved by voice vote.
On policy and handbooks the board approved the elementary handbook after a second reading that corrected page numbers, verified links and added clearer dress-code language prohibiting clothing that "endangers" or exposes undergarments. The athletic code of conduct was presented for first reading with no recommended changes; trustees discussed whether newly adopted NIL (name, image, likeness) guidance from WIAA/WASB should be reflected in local policy.
The board moved and seconded a motion to table Policy 5.38 (evaluation of licensed professional staff rule) and voted to send it back to committee for further work. Later in the meeting the chair entertained a motion and second to convene a closed session under Wisconsin Statutes 19.85(1)(e) to discuss an individual employee contract; the board conducted a roll call and recorded the following members present: Andrew Coop, Phil Henkel, Kevin Jensen, Miriam (as read on the roll), Bert Richard, Nellie Scheier, Doug Kuchko, Laurie Saarbach and Don Kuskie.
No public appearances were registered for the evening, and the board indicated the district will follow up through committee work and staff for items sent back for further review.
