Commissioners on Feb. 5 discussed updating a library outreach PowerPoint last finalized in 2019 and unanimously supported placing an updated presentation on a future agenda for further discussion.
Staff described the outreach toolkit as a modular PowerPoint commissioners can use at community events and noted the existing slide deck contains metrics such as roughly 587,000 visitors per year, about 1,000,000 items borrowed, 514 programs a year and roughly 43,500 cardholders. Staff also highlighted the Student Success program that automatically issues Pleasanton library cards to PUSD TK–12 students (with an opt‑out) and recommended the program be featured in outreach materials.
Commissioners recommended modernizing photos and quotes (subject to permission), creating modular slide sets tailored to audiences (seniors, businesses, schools), adding action items and QR codes to drive immediate engagement, and including presenter notes and an FAQ for commissioners who present externally. One commissioner suggested using QR codes that link to an e-card sign-up or sponsorship forms; staff cautioned that commissioners themselves cannot solicit financial donations and that information about donation stewardship should be included in the FAQ.
Staff said it will prepare a draft PowerPoint and “anticipate” having a draft by April. A motion to add the library commission outreach presentation to a future agenda was made, seconded and passed unanimously.
