The Dental Board of California on Feb. 5 approved organizational business including committee assignments, amended earlier meeting minutes and reappointed two members of the Dental Assisting Council.
Board President Dr. Lilia Larin announced the 2026 committee roster and introduced Executive Officer Bryce Dougherty at the start of the meeting. Committee assignments named members for diversion, elective facial cosmetic surgery (EFCS) credentialing, enforcement, examinations, access-to-care, legislative and regulatory work, anesthesia, and a new editorial and communications committee.
The board corrected and approved minutes for past meetings after Dr. Steven Chan requested an amendment to a Nov. 5 entry to clarify that a nomination was uncertain because reappointment was uncertain. The board then voted to approve the Nov. 6 minutes as amended.
On appointments, the board unanimously reappointed Jessica Gerlach, RDA, and Kara Miyazaki, RDA, to four-year terms on the Dental Assisting Council (effective at the end of each incumbent’s current term). Board staff described the selection process and noted each candidate met statutory qualifications for the council’s required mix of faculty and clinical representatives.
Administrative Services Unit Manager Wilbert Rumbau briefed the board on the current budget. He reported a total appropriation of about $20.4 million for the fiscal year and expected expenditures near $18.6 million, leaving an estimated reversion of roughly $1.9 million and approximately 14.9 months of operating reserves. Executive Officer Dougherty noted the board’s vacancy rate was about 6 percent and praised staff retention.
The board recessed its open session and moved to closed session at the scheduled time. The board said it will reconvene at 9 a.m. on Feb. 6 for continued business.
