Bureau reports improved timeliness in audits and higher licensing and inspection counts

Audit and licensing staff summarized performance gains for the prior fiscal year and ongoing operational changes.
Audit Manager Michelle Arthur reported a marked increase in timely reporting: funeral-side timely reporting rose from about 53% at the last meeting to 84%, and cemetery timely reporting rose from about 90% to 97%. "This has been our enforcement and audit team identifying reporting errors," she said, and Gina Chevarini Sanchez emphasized that on-time reporting saves bureau resources by reducing warning letters and citations.
Licensing Manager Melissa Rice reported FY2024–25 licensing activity, saying the bureau issued 1,066 licenses in FY24–25 compared with 953 in FY23–24 and that 51% of renewals were processed online. Rice attributed some processing delays to the migration to CFB Connect and said staff reallocated resources to prioritize application review. She also noted examination-development work for the cemetery-manager category and thanked subject-matter experts who participated in workshops and surveys.
Gina said the bureau completed about 1,205 inspections in FY24–25 (up from around 1,173 the prior year), noting inspections can be triggered by new establishment openings and ownership changes.
Ending: The bureau said it will continue to monitor performance measures, pursue audit-unit software to reduce manual tracking and provide annual strategic-plan updates to the advisory committee.
