Baldwin Park schedules Black History Month celebration Feb. 28 with exhibit, vendors and traditional stomp performance

Program supervisor April Rojo told commissioners the Black History Month Community Cultural Celebration will be held Saturday, Feb. 28 at 11 a.m. next door at the Arts and Recreation Center. The event includes a continuous slideshow, an art exhibit that incorporates high-school artwork (some pieces for sale from donors), a ceremony conducted in collaboration with housing commissioner Laura Franklin, a traditional fraternity "stomp" performance, arts-and-crafts for children, and a vendor fair with 13 confirmed vendors.
Rojo said the event is free and open to the public and encouraged community participation. She noted the city has hosted the event for four years and highlighted local history displays including references to the McNeil family for whom the senior center is named.
