Committee approves series of appointments and procedural items; one reappointment draws a dissenting vote

The Economic Development Committee handled routine business and a series of appointments.
The committee approved the December 9 meeting minutes and passed a set of appointment resolutions, including appointments to the Ulster County Planning Board (City of Kingston and town representatives), alternates and reappointments to various county boards. Most of the appointment resolutions were approved by voice vote as part of the consent agenda.
Resolution 37, which reappointed multiple members to the Ulster County Industrial Development Agency board through Dec. 31, 2026, prompted additional discussion. Legislator Murray moved to take no action to allow new members time to review applicants; that motion did not carry and the resolution moved forward with at least one negative vote recorded (Murray).
Other business included approval of intermunicipal agreements that authorize municipal worksites for youth employment programs (Resolution 42) and setting a public hearing for proposed Local Law No. 5 of 2026 to rename the Workforce Investment Board to the Workforce Development Board and adjust residency requirements (Resolution 43). Those items passed by voice vote.
What’s next: Appointments will stand until replaced and the clerk’s office will accept and process new applications for boards; the public hearing on Local Law No. 5 is scheduled for March 18, 2026.
