LCSD1 previews boundary recommendation after Deming closure; parents may opt to other schools

Laramie County School District No. 1 administrators on Tuesday previewed a recommended redraw of elementary boundaries tied to the planned closure of Deming Elementary, saying the plan aims to simplify attendance lines and keep school capacities near target levels.
Eddie Knapp, speaking for district administration, presented a map showing the Deming–Miller area north of Pershing Boulevard assigned to Davis next year and the area south of Pershing Boulevard assigned to Pioneer Park. Knapp said the proposal “keeps pretty clean lines on our boundaries” and helps maintain other elementaries within the district’s preferred capacity range of about 85 to 100 percent.
Trustee Claussen clarified that parents would retain some choice: “parents can opt, as long as there’s room, can opt to go to either school,” she said, describing it as an opportunity for families to request the alternate school when space permits. Superintendent Newton said the administration will bring a formal motion for the board to vote on at the next regular meeting.
