Commissioner Baker told the Mayor and Board Commissioners that agenda item 8.1 will seek approval of a $18,029.22 payment to the Department of Wildlife Conservation for fish lost in a May wastewater upset. Baker said the agency has statutory authority to assess fines and that the department counted roughly 55,000 fish.
"8.1 on the regular session is about approving a payment for $18,029.22 to the Department of Wildlife Conservation," Baker said, noting staff is revising documents and has been in contact with the company involved so the city can pursue reimbursement.
Melissa (staff) reviewed the relevant statutes, Baker said, and staff reported they have already discussed the matter with the potentially responsible company and its representatives. No formal action was taken during the study session; the item will appear on the regular meeting agenda for consideration.
The discussion was limited to a briefing; commissioners did not vote in the study session. The commission will consider the payment and any accompanying documents during the regular session under agenda item 8.1.
