Building & Grounds reports dispatch upgrades, contract change and contained jail waterline break

Facilities staff (S2) told the Marquette County Property Committee on Jan. 6, 2026 that Building & Grounds has completed work in the dispatch area and replaced roughly 125 fixtures, and that the county switched towel and soap-dispensing contracts to Kimberly-Clark to realize savings. S2 said one fabric purchase for a counter project came in at "a little over a $4,000 in material," which the speaker said fit within the existing budget.
S2 also reported a waterline failure in the jail when a nut fractured on a commercial flush valve and the fixture separated from the wall. "From the time they called ... there was somebody here within 8 minutes shutting that off," S2 said, and estimated the incident released about 1,000 gallons of water. The water flowed into floor and shower drains and S2 said "nothing was damaged." As a follow-up, S2 will bring training to the jail next Thursday to show staff where the water meter and shutoff are located to speed future responses.
Committee members asked technical questions about the fixtures and noted that floor drains prevented a larger problem. S2 said year-over-year work orders are up, driven in part by jail needs and training requirements. No budget amendments or emergency procurements were recorded during the meeting.
