Mercer County approves two appointments, reschedules March meeting

Appointments: The commission resolved a prior tie for a Planning & Zoning vacancy by appointing Andy Thomas after a motion and vote. Speaker 2 moved to appoint Andy Thomas; the motion passed with the votes recorded during the session. Separately, the commission approved the appointment of Brian Kearns ( described in the record as a former Soil Conservation District staffer now employed at Knife River Indian Village) to the county Water Resource Board after Kearns’ employer cleared a potential conflict of interest.
Scheduling: Speaker 2 requested moving the March 4 meeting because of a scheduling conflict; after checking availability the commission voted to hold the meeting on Tuesday, March 3 at 10:00. Several members noted there were no public hearings scheduled for March 3 or 4 at the time and confirmed notification requirements would be observed.
Votes: Both appointments and the scheduling motion were recorded with affirmative votes. The appointees will be notified and the Water Resource Board application will be processed per county procedure.
