Scottsdale council names new members to boards and commissions

Airport Advisory Commission: After interviews, David McCartney, an aviation management professional and active pilot, was appointed to the Airport Advisory Commission, which advises council on airport operations, land use, fees and safety.
Board of Adjustment: Martha West, a long-range planner with prior city planning experience and knowledge of the Scottsdale Zoning Ordinance, was appointed to the Board of Adjustment following the council vote.
Historic Preservation Commission: Mark McCurdy, who cited experience working with Frank Lloyd Wright-related properties and an interest in preserving Scottsdale's mid-century architecture, was appointed to the Historic Preservation Commission.
Library Board: Candidates John Grosskloos, Mary McBride and Monica Sonnaklar presented their library and community experience; Monica Sonnaklar was appointed and the council thanked all applicants.
Tourism Development Commission: With two hotelier openings and two nominees, Stefan (Stephen) Miller and Alex Shelton were both appointed by acclamation. Council members praised their hospitality experience and investment in Scottsdale.
Why it matters: Boards and commissions advise the council on policy and program administration, such as airport planning, zoning appeals, historic preservation, library services, and tourism funding.
