Resident raises code concerns about bright FPL parking-lot light; city staff to contact FPL and property manager

Jeff Greenstein addressed the commission during public participation to report a problematic FPL parking-lot light adjacent to his unit, saying the fixture was angled upward, lacked shielding, and emitted a high correlated color temperature and lumen output he believed violated municipal and county illumination guidelines.
Greenstein said he had submitted a complaint online and received a brief response that the lighting responsibility rested with the property. He described the fixtures as producing roughly 4,000 Kelvin color temperature and quoted lumen ranges of “12,000 to 20,000 lumens,” which he said would require shielding under the code.
City staff recognized the complaint and told Greenstein to provide contact information. Director Laban (staff) said the city would contact FPL and attempt to work with the property manager, while noting that FPL and private-property owners regulate some aspects of those lights and the city’s on-property access is limited.
No formal code enforcement action was announced at the meeting; staff said they would follow up with the resident and attempt outreach to FPL and property management.
