Centerville Council conditionally accepts 0.89-acre Hillside donation pending clean phase I study

The Centerville City Council voted unanimously on Jan. 20 to accept a 0.89-acre donation of hillside land from the Utah State Rifle and Pistol Association, contingent on a satisfactory phase I environmental site assessment and title review.

Staff told the council the parcel (parcel number 02-051-0004) sits adjacent to existing city open-space holdings and that the donor asked only that the city cover the upcoming property taxes (staff noted the tax bill would be about $60 and the quitclaim deed lists $100 to cover any changes). City staff said they are conducting a standard phase I assessment and will proceed only if that review and title work are acceptable to staff and the city attorney.

Staff indicated the donation would improve access to nearby trailhead parking and would help preserve public access to the mountainside. City staff also noted some properties in the area are subject to easements but said typical blanket easements would not necessarily prevent accepting the donation.

A council member moved approval with the condition that environmental and title reviews be satisfactory and authorized the mayor to sign recording documents if staff recommended final acceptance. The motion was seconded and carried by voice vote; the mayor announced the motion passed unanimously (5–0).

Next steps: staff will complete the phase I environmental assessment and title review, report any red flags to council, and return with final documentation for recording if reviews are clear.
