Hallandale Beach commission adopts ordinance allowing aircraft landings on city property

The Hallandale Beach City Commission on Feb. 4 adopted an ordinance amending Chapter 4, Section 4-12 to permit aircraft landings on city property, a change the mayor said will allow local public-safety partners to showcase rescue helicopters.
Mayor Cooper, who brought the item forward, said the change was intended “specifically for us to really showcase BSO or partners BSO and the chief, be able to, share with us some of their rescue and helicopters.” The commission closed the public hearing after no members of the public approached the podium.
The ordinance had been adopted previously on a roll call at an earlier meeting; the second-reading vote at this meeting passed unanimously. The measure provides for codification, conflict resolution and an effective date as written in the ordinance language presented to the commission.
City staff did not report any public-safety concerns or changes to operating procedures in the meeting discussion. The commission recorded a roll-call vote in favor of adoption, with the motion carrying 5-0.
The ordinance’s immediate effect and any operational agreements with Broward Sheriff’s Office or other partners were not specified during the meeting; staff indicated the item was on its second reading and gave no further procedural directions at the meeting’s close.
