The Middleton Sustainability Committee approved a $250 allocation from its 2026 budget to support a bird-ambassador training course designed to reduce bird-window collisions.
Deb outlined a plan to partner with Southern Wisconsin Bird Alliance and Bird City Wisconsin to bring a Wisconsin Master Naturalist–level bird-ambassador training to Middleton on March 21 (or a nearby weekend). The program would charge a reduced participant fee (staff estimated $25) and required outreach obligations by participants to multiply the benefit of the training.
Deb asked the committee to contribute $250 for materials and outreach. John moved to support the expenditure and an unidentified committee member seconded. The committee approved the $250 allocation by voice vote; there was no recorded roll-call vote.
Deb said the training will prepare roughly 20 participants to lead two public outreach events and that partners would provide substantial in-kind support; staff and volunteers from the Pheasant Branch Conservancy and regional partners will be involved in course logistics. The program is intended to support Middleton’s ongoing bird-protection work, including a city resolution requiring bird protections on the first 30 feet of commercial building windows.
